This California-based musician, composer, singer, performer, and producer contracted the infectious contamination called music at the age of 16. His sister bought him a Paul McCartney bass for his birthday, and Vic became unstoppable.
After a month, he started performing—singing while playing bass. It didn't take too long before he also played the upright bass. Soon also playing on a dreadnought guitar became part of the daily routine. His fondness of bohemian jazz brought him on a quite personal instrumental detour; approaching this genre with a Spanish guitar. He started to study and interpret Django Reinhardt, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, and other jazz legends. But also his renditions of contemporary pop music became the musical background of wherever you meet Victor.
At 17, he started composing, arranging, recording, and producing his renditions of Evergreens and later on his own music. He does it all — drums, percussion, bass, guitars, piano, strings, and other instruments. He is his own studio engineer, producer, mastering engineer etc. He hates to launch because his work is never finished.
Victor Raats' style is eclectic with an apparent presence of various 20th-century and recent musical influences. He absorbs music, 1900'—2000 century music history, artist personalities, their various phases, the colors, the patterns, and even the distinct scent of a particular key, instrument, or sound.
Victor Raats is currently working on new material and open to collaborations.
If you feel called; don't hesitate to connect with Victor.
